Our team offers comprehensive care including diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care for a variety of cancers. When you are diagnosed with cancer, our team provides consultation – and will coordinate and direct your medical care. Your medical oncologist will:
- Educate you about your type of cancer and the stage of the cancer.
- Explain standard and evidence-based treatment options and work with you to develop a treatment plan to help you experience the best possible outcome.
- Follow up with you to monitor your condition and health status.
- Refer you to other specialists as needed, including cancer surgeons and radiation oncologists.
In addition to your oncology team in this clinic, Avera has a larger, integrated team committed to you. We offer:
- Surgical care including advanced, minimally invasive and robotic techniques
- Radiation therapy
- Chemotherapy and biotherapy
- Genomic medicine (also known as precision oncology)
- Connection to clinical trials that may provide treatment options in addition to standard of care
The oncology and hematology infusion center is comprised of private infusion rooms all with natural light, a television and we offer complimentary snacks and heated blankets for comfort. Patients in our infusion center have access to support staff and programming, such as financial patient advocacy, chaplaincy, dietitian and social work services. Chemotherapy biotherapy-trained infusion nurses partner with the on-site oncology hematology providers and clinic staff to provide whole person care in a welcoming environment.
Services offered in the Avera infusion center include not only IV infusions of chemotherapy and biotherapies but also supportive drugs and hydration and clinical research trial drug delivery. Additionally, patients may receive injections, bladder installation chemotherapy or chemotherapy pump services. Most commonly the infusion center is serving those with a cancer diagnosis or a benign or malignant hematologic condition.
Our infusion staff partner not only with the on-site oncology and hematology team but with telemedicine and off-site ordering physicians to bring care close to home.

Our genetic testing and counseling team can help determine if you have higher risk for certain types of cancer based on your DNA and other risk factors. This approach helps you and your family members make informed decisions about prevention measures and screening options for early detection of cancer. Also, genetic testing can sometimes be used to guide the oncologist when providing treatment recommendations.
Nurses and social workers are here to talk through your questions or concerns. The Navigation Center is available to anyone impacted by cancer including families. No matter what you face, there’s a real person waiting to help just one phone call away.

Avera Cancer Institute’s clinical research trials advance the science of medicine and may provide additional options for cancer patients who qualify for studies with active enrollment. Patients always receive evidence-based standard treatment for all types of cancer, yet clinical trials may provide additional options.
