Children with Down syndrome have unique medical needs. The board-certified specialists at the Avera Down Syndrome Clinic help ensure that your child remains healthy and continues to reach developmental benchmarks. In addition to visits with your child’s primary care provider, we recommend your child come to the Avera Down Syndrome Clinic at these milestones:
- Infants and toddlers 2 years and younger: every six months
- Children 3+: yearly
During appointments, you’ll talk with a broad range of specialists (establish these provider interactions when scheduling), get a general assessment of your child’s overall health, and receive a personalized care plan to share with your child’s primary care provider. You can also request speech, physical and occupational therapy assessments, eye screenings and hearing exams.
