Finding Us: This emergency department is on the northwest (back) side of the Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in southwest Rock Rapids, IA. We offer two convenient campus entrances, one on the highway at South 10th Avenue and the other on 12th Avenue. Follow the signs for the emergency entrance. Free parking is available next to the building.

If a patient requires a hospital stay, our staff will stabilize them for our admission to our hospital, which is a Level IV Trauma Center. We can also arrange for transport to higher-level care centers such as Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls.

Our emergency department was designed with our patients in mind. If you arrive by ambulance, you are unloaded in our ambulance garage before entering the facility. This prevents exposure to the weather and helps protect your privacy. Those not arriving by ambulance have a designated entrance on the back side of the building. Follow the signage and look for the red awning for our emergency entrance.
Our team will ensure you’re stabilized and cared for in a private area to further preserve your dignity. This flow of patient rooms also allows staff efficiency in serving patients and team communication.

Right inside our facility, you have access to a wide range of laboratory services that contribute to accurate diagnoses of medical conditions.
