Avera Research Institute is dedicated to improving health for mothers and their children through community-based research and clinical trials. With a focus on historically high-risk or medically underserved populations, our efforts directly benefit patients on many fronts including, cultural resonance and innovation. Clinical trials focus on improving maternal and pediatric health and development of conditions such as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
We want to see that moms and babies are healthy throughout pregnancy, delivery and beyond. Increasing access to obstetrics services improves outcomes like pre-term labor, low birthweight and infant mortality in South Dakota. For that to happen, moms need high-quality prenatal care and careful management of conditions such as high blood pressure and gestational diabetes, regardless of their ZIP code or income level.
