Finding Us: This Women’s Center is located on the second floor inside Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center, which is near the intersection of South Bruce Street and East College Drive. Free parking is available next to the building.

Lactation & Breastfeeding Support

Free breastfeeding and lactation services are available from registered nurses and speech therapists who are trained as certified lactation consultants. They can help answer questions and support you with expertise and encouragement both during your hospital stay and after you go home. If you or your child need extra attention for medical reasons, you have seamless access to the Avera Children’s Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Maternal Fetal Medicine and other specialists in Sioux Falls. Avera offers individualized care including:

  • Specialized maternal and neonatal transport by Careflight air or ground ambulance

Upon arrival to the Women’s Center, you will be placed in one of our state-of-the-art labor and delivery rooms. You will remain in this room until after the birth of your baby.

Our labor and delivery rooms feature an HDTV, birthing bed, a storage cabinet holding labor supplies and plenty of space for your belongings, as well as a recliner for your support person.

Your infant will be placed in one of our bassinets during their stay. Infants must be transported to and from the nursery in the bassinet. For safety and security reasons, infants are never to be carried in the hallways.

Breastfeeding is encouraged as the gold standard in infant nutrition, and staff are trained in breastfeeding support to assist you. If you prefer formula over breastfeeding, the hospital supplies Similac products for you to utilize during your stay, and nursing staff can assist you with that request.

Pregnancy & Childbirth Education

  • Sign up to access our Maybe a Baby online resource hub and email series.
  • You can also participate in a wide range of childbirth education classes to learn about caring for your baby and yourself before, during and after pregnancy. Choose from online class options or free, in-person sessions at Avera Marshall covering labor and delivery, breastfeeding and newborn care.
