Urgent & Emergency Care in Avera MyChart

If you or your loved one needs immediate care, MyChart offers options for finding urgent, weekend and emergency care. While you can always use our location directory to find acute care locations and emergency rooms, MyChart offers other options for finding available appointments, letting us know you’re coming and more.

For Emergencies

For conditions that threaten a life, limb or organ, call 911 or go to one of Avera's emergency departments immediately. When you check into one of our emergency departments, you may be presented with the option to use MyChart Bedside, a feature that can keep you and trusted family or friends up to date on your emergency care and what to expect.

Find Acute Care and Save Your Spot

All of our locations offer care for walk-in patients during open hours. With some, you can select a time slot or let us know you’re coming within MyChart. Note that all patients will be triaged for care upon arrival, and your treatment time may be impacted by that. This function is subject to change dependent on facility volume and other factors.

How to save your spot in line at acute care

  1. Go to the Acute, Urgent and Emergency Care page in MyChart.
  2. Select the care you need from the options:
    • Acute Care: general acute care
    • Emergency
    • Behavioral Health: mental health crisis care
    • Orthopedic Walk-In
  3. When you choose Acute Care, you can scroll through the list and choose one, or you can shorten the list by selecting the dropdown arrow next to Showing all locations to find locations near your zip code.
  4. Depending on when you are browsing the options compared to the location’s hours, you may see locations offer one of these options:
    • Walk-ins are welcomed when open.
    • Next appt: When you select one of these locations, you can pick a time slot when you’d like to save your spot in line. Review your time and location selected and enter your contact details, reason for visit and any other additional information. Choose Submit.
      • Note: You can also just walk into these locations for care. A time slot is not required.
    • Locations marked with green pin but without a next appointment time: These locations offer the option for you to let us know you’re coming soon. Select one of these locations, and then select a time indicating how long until you’ll arrive: 15 minutes or less, 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. Choose I’m on my way. Review your time and location selected and enter your contact details, reason for visit and any other additional information. Choose Submit.
      • Note: You can also just walk into these locations for care. It is not required for you to let us know you’re on your way.

When you arrive, let the staff know that you saved a spot online in MyChart. They will guide you, provide instruction and let you know more on what to expect.
