Avera Welcomes Tri Valley Health System as an Affiliate Member

On Oct. 18, Tri Valley Health System of Cambridge, Neb., voted to become an Affiliate Member of Avera Health.

Effective Dec. 1, 2017, this three-year agreement provides a full range of consultation services and management support. The Board of Directors remains the decision-making body of all operational aspects of the Tri Valley Health System, and ownership of the health campus remains local.

The Tri Valley system includes

  • Cambridge Memorial Hospital, a 20-bed critical access hospital
  • Cambridge Medical Clinic with two satellite clinics in Arapahoe and Indianola
  • Heritage Plaza Retirement Village
  • Cambridge Manor, a 36-bed long-term care center
  • Tri Valley Assisted Living, which includes 20 units
  • Tri Valley Wellness Center

The system employs approximately 150, and all will remain employees of Tri Valley Health System. “Through this agreement, Avera will support us with a full range of management services. Ownership will remain local. While Avera will make recommendations to us through the management agreement, decision-making control remains with our local board,” said Deborah Herzberg, CEO of Tri Valley Health System.

Tri Valley began working with Avera in 2016 through the Avera eCARE® Pharmacy service, a 24-hour telepharmacy service which provides verification of medication orders before they are given to patients.

“This was a two-year process to identify the right system to partner with that understands rural health care and would help us fulfill our mission to improve the lives we touch by providing care of the highest quality,” said Tri Valley Health System Board President Randy Heitmann. “We are impressed with Avera’s track record of working with 28 other hospitals in rural communities like ours, and feel that they are dedicated to strengthening our services.”

Avera has a 20-year history of successful partnerships with community clinics, hospitals and other health care facilities. These partnerships take the form of a facility being owned, leased or managed by Avera, or another type of affiliation best suited for a particular situation. Partnerships benefit local communities in the form of long-term stability, greater access to updates in equipment and technology, and help with physician recruitment.

“We are excited to begin working with Tri Valley Health System. They have an impressive, comprehensive range of services. This partnership will further our missional goal of supporting high quality health care in rural communities,” said Curt Hohman, Senior Vice President for Network Operations with Avera Health.
