New Avera Hospital and Clinic Open in Rock Rapids
Avera announces the opening of the new Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital and Avera Medical Group Rock Rapids on one campus, conveniently located along Highway 75 at 1100 S. 10th Ave. in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
“This cutting-edge facility is a model in the delivery of excellent rural health care,” said David Springer, MD, family medicine physician in Rock Rapids. “Today’s medical facilities must accommodate the technology of the present and future. We have this as well as a health campus that will translate into a comfortable and seamless care experience for patients.”
The $28.9 million 11-bed hospital and clinic comprises more than 52,000 square feet.
The clinic will offer same-day appointments for primary care, evening hours one day each week, and Saturday morning hours. It has 12 exam rooms and one procedure room to accommodate two physicians and two advanced practice providers. There’s also an area designated for outreach for visiting providers.
Imaging services include CT, 3-D mammography, X-ray, ultrasound and bone density scanning – all on site as opposed to a mobile unit. “Patients will have access to the latest diagnostic technology, right here in Rock Rapids,” Springer said.
The Emergency Department, featuring a treatment room and a trauma room, will be open 24/7.
Avera eCARE® Emergency, Pharmacy and Hospitalist – telemedicine services that support and supplement local providers – will be offered in the facility.
The surgery area will have three rooms dedicated to pre- and post-operative care for both outpatient and inpatient procedures. Endoscopy, colonoscopy and general surgery procedures will be offered.
Other hospital features include a large therapy gym and the ability to offer chemotherapy and infusions – a new service to the community.
“In addition to accommodating the latest technology and best practices, priorities included convenience, privacy, safety, efficiency and creating a healing atmosphere for the body, mind and spirit,” said Craig Hohn, Administrator at Avera Rock Rapids
The process of developing this new health campus began three years ago when the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital Association in January 2016 made the decision to partner with Avera.
In this partnership, Avera will lease operations of the Rock Rapids community hospital and clinics.
“We sought out a partner that shared our priority and passion for keeping quality health care local. Avera’s long history of working with communities through various types of arrangements demonstrates their commitment to quality care, close to home,” said Jim VanderWoude, chair of the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital Association.
The Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital Association is contributing to this project through a combination of fundraising, community contributions and association funds, with the balance being financed through a USDA loan.
“This facility complements the rich heritage and vibrant growth of Rock Rapids and the surrounding communities in Lyon County,” Hohn said. “This new patient-focused hospital and clinic are designed to promote wellness, a continuum of care and generational health for decades to come.”
