Avera and Freeman Regional Health Services Strengthen Partnership
Avera Health announces a new affiliation agreement with Freeman Regional Health Services (FRHS) of Freeman, S.D. The new Partner in Health agreement began June 1, 2020.
For the past year, FRHS has been exploring the benefits of a closer relationship with Avera. Through its affiliation with Avera, FRHS would like to find ways to reduce costs to patients, maintain and grow services available to the community, build upon the positive relationship that FRHS has had with Avera for technology and clinic services, and gain assistance in evaluating a new campus.
“This affiliation builds upon the great relationship that Freeman Regional Health Services already has with Avera,” said Nick Brandner, CEO of Freeman Regional Health Services. Since 2011, Avera and Freeman Regional Health Services have jointly operated the local clinic. “This collaboration has been successful and we look forward to the benefits we’ll gain from an expanded relationship with Avera.”
This agreement includes all aspects of Freeman Regional Health Services
- Freeman Medical Center, a 25-bed hospital including surgical and emergency services
- Oakview Terrace, a 56-bed skilled nursing facility that includes two 10-bed memory care neighborhoods
- Walnut and Dewald Street Villages, two 10-unit congregate living, independent apartment complexes
- Rural Medical Clinics, four clinics in Bridgewater, Freeman, Marion, and Menno, S.D.
Across its 72,000-mile footprint, Avera has developed numerous relationships with local health care facilities that range from ownership to leased, managed and Partner in Health agreements.
“Avera offers many options and levels of affiliation. Through the Partners in Health agreement, Freeman Regional Health Services can
realize the benefits of a strong health system while retaining the decision-making powers of the local board,” said Lori Uecker, President of the FRHS Board of Directors.
With a Partner in Health agreement, Avera provides leadership and assistance as outlined by the agreement for a monthly fee. All employees remain employees of Freeman Regional Health Services, and FRHS retains ownership.
“Freeman Regional Health Services has a strong history of providing quality care to the Bridgewater, Freeman, Marion and Menno community. This agreement is the culmination of a strong, trusting relationship that has been built over more than 10 years. We are proud to welcome Freeman Regional Health Services to the Avera family, and look forward to working with them to further enhance high-quality local care,” said Curt Hohman, Senior Vice President of Managed Facilities for Avera. “Avera’s strength is quality care, close to home. Our agreements are designed to help local facilities stay strong and viable.”
