Granite Falls Health Joins Avera
Avera announces that Granite Falls Health in Granite Falls, Minn., joined Avera as of Jan. 1 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.
Granite Falls Health was previously city-owned and includes a 25-bed critical access hospital; a provider-based clinic, which is already an Avera affiliate; a 48-bed skilled nursing center; a 28-unit independent senior living community; and home health care agency.
As of Jan. 1, names of new facilities are:
- Avera Granite Falls Health Center (hospital)
- Avera Medical Group (clinic)
- Avera Granite Falls Care Center (skilled nursing center)
- Avera Granite Ridge Senior Living (independent senior living community)
- Avera Granite Falls Home Health (home health agency)
Granite Falls Health formed a task force in the fall of 2018 to explore the case for forming a partnership with a health system and sought out potential partners. Avera was one of four health systems invited to respond to a Request for Proposals in spring 2019. After months of due diligence, the task force selected Avera and made a recommendation to the Granite Falls Health Board of Directors.
“After a thorough process, the Granite Falls Community Task Force and Board of Directors selected Avera as the best partner for cultural fit, preservation of services, experience in rural health care, success in physician recruitment and more,” said Tom Kooiman, CEO, Granite Falls Health. “Avera has a long history of successful partnerships with communities like ours. We’re confident that this will be a smooth transition for our patients, and they will continue to experience the high quality care they’ve come to expect in Granite Falls.”
Granite Falls employees will transition to become Avera employees, and physicians have already been working with Avera Marshall through a professional services agreement.
“Granite Falls Health has a strong history of providing quality care to the community. As health care evolves on a nationwide scale, collaborative partnerships are more important than ever. We are proud to welcome Granite Falls to the Avera family, and offer the strength of the Avera system to support local health care,” said Mary Maertens, CEO and Regional President of Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. “Avera’s strength is quality care, close to home. Our partnerships with facilities like Granite Falls Health are designed to help local facilities stay strong and viable.”
