Avera Earns Highest Level Among “Most Wired” Health Systems

Avera has again earned the highest level of recognition as a Level 10 organization in the 2020 Digital Health Most Wired Survey conducted by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).

Avera was one of five health systems in the nation eligible for Level 10 status in 2020.

This is the second year that Avera has been named as a Level 10 organization. In 2018, Avera was named among the Top 10, ranked at No. 5, and in 2017 received the “advanced” designation. This is the 21st time Avera has been honored on the Most Wired list.

The CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program encourages the optimal use of information technology in health care. The program does this by conducting an annual survey to identify, recognize, and certify the adoption, implementation, and use of information technology by health care provider organizations.

Hospitals included in the Most Wired program are certified as Levels 1-10, with Levels 9 and 10 designating the health IT leaders that have displayed the highest and most innovative uses of technology at their respective organizations.

CHIME's Most Wired list aims to recognize health care organizations that have adopted and leveraged information technology to improve patient safety and outcomes in the industry.

“Avera’s history of Most Wired awards as well as our latest designation as Level 10 demonstrates that we are an industry leader,” said Avera Interim Chief Information Officer Richard Molseed. “Avera fosters a strong culture of innovation, combining the latest technology with medical expertise to benefit our patients.”

A total of 30,135 organizations were represented in the 2020 Digital Health Most Wired program, which this year included four separate surveys: domestic, ambulatory, long-term care, and international. The surveys assessed the impact of technologies in health care organizations at all stages of development, from early development to industry leading.

Organizations were scored in eight segments: infrastructure; security; business/disaster recovery; administrative/supply chain; analytics/data management; interoperability/population health; patient engagement; and clinical quality/safety.

“Digital technology has been a driver of innovation in health care for many years now, but never to the degree that we saw in 2020 with the pandemic,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. “The Digital Health Most Wired program underscores why health care organizations keep pushing themselves to be digital leaders and shows what amazing feats they can achieve.”
