Two Avera Critical Access Hospitals Achieve Top 20 Designation
Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller, S.D., and Milbank Area Hospital Avera in Milbank, S.D., were named among the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals by the Chartis Center for Rural Health.
An awards ceremony will be held during the National Rural Health Association’s (NRHA) conference in September in Kansas City.
Determining factors for the Top 20 CAHs were based on the results of the Hospital Strength Index and its eight indices of performance: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and financial efficiency.
This elite group of hospitals was selected from the Chartis Center for Rural Health’s 2021 top 100 CAH list, which was released earlier this year. Best practice designations were also given to facilities that achieved success in one of two key areas of performance: 1) quality: a rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across rural-relevant process of care measures, and 2) patient perspective: a rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across all 10 HCAHPS domains.
In addition to being named in the overall Top 20, Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital was listed in the Top 20 for patient perspective best practice.
“Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital is proud of the efforts of the physicians and staff who have contributed to our hospital achieving these designations,” says Administrator Bryan Breitling. “Our results as a top hospital means our community can count on us to deliver the services they need now and in the future. Our patients receive top quality care as well as a top experience.”
“Milbank Area Hospital Avera is proud to provide award-winning care to our community. We thank our providers and amazing team of health care professionals who bring their best to work every day for the benefit of all,” said Administrator Natalie Gauer.
“NRHA is committed to ensuring our members have the best information to manage their hospitals,” says Brock Slabach, NRHA membership services senior vice president. “We’re pleased to recognize the accomplishments of these rural hospitals.”
