Avera Physicians Published in National Journal

Avera physicians Sujit Vijay Sakpal, MD, FACS, FICS and Robert N. Santella, MD, FACP, wrote an article published in the August 2020 national Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved, a peer-reviewed journal, published by John Hopkins University Press, that focuses on contemporary health care issues of medically underserved communities.

The article, titled “Kidney Transplantation in Native Americans: Time to Explore, Expel Disparity” reviews existing challenges to kidney transplantation in Native American/American Indian patients, and discusses potential solutions to improve equitable delivery of specialized health care to this underprivileged population.

An expanded article, titled “Kidney Transplantation in United States Native Americans: Breaking Barriers” was published in the Journal of South Dakota Medicine in January 2021.
