Together with Commerce Bank, Avera offers patients and families a line of credit to help pay outstanding medical balances. Health Services Financing (HSF®) works just like a loan with monthly payments.

What is the minimum amount that can be financed?

The financially responsible person must finance $250 at a minimum for the initial transaction.

What are the extended payment plan terms?

The following spells out payment terms for you to reference.

If I have questions, whom do I contact?

Contact Avera Health at 888-370-6525 for general enrollment questions. Contact Commerce Bank at 855-893-1292 with questions regarding an established account.

Is there a penalty if I pay this off early?

No, there is no penalty for early payments.

What happens if I have additional balances that I want to finance in the future?

The new balance(s) can be added to the existing line of credit up to a total amount of $50,000.

What happens if I miss a payment?

If you’re the financially responsible person and you miss a payment, please contact Commerce Bank at 855-893-1292 to address overdue payments. Commerce Bank may assess a late fee.

I want to cancel my financing plan. How do I do that?

If you’re the financially responsible person, please contact Commerce Bank at 855-893-1292 to cancel an existing account. Any outstanding balance(s) will transfer to Avera Health or Avera Heart Hospital.

Do I make my payments directly to the provider or to Commerce Bank?

Please make payments directly to Commerce Bank.

What are my options for sending payment(s) to Commerce Bank?

You have several options:

  • Make a quick payment online or activate online banking through Commerce Bank.
  • Set up automatic recurring payments through Commerce Bank by enrolling in online banking.
  • Send a check to Commerce Bank, P.O. Box 801042, Kansas City, MO 64180-1042. This address will also be included on your periodic statements.
  • Make a payment in person at any Commerce Bank branch location.
  • Make a payment over the phone by calling Commerce Bank’s free 24-hour automated phone system at 855-893-1292. You will be prompted to select the appropriate option to make a payment from your desired checking or savings account, or an eligible Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Can I add multiple family members under one financing plan?

Yes. If you are the financially responsible person, you can set up one financing plan for multiple accounts.

Are elective services able to be financed?

Unfortunately, no. Elective services are not able to be financed at this time.

If I finance additional balances, does this affect my overall repayment terms?

Overall repayment terms do not change. Each time you finance additional balances, those lines of credit have their own unique repayment terms listed on the revised monthly billing statement for each balance financed. You will be asked to pay one monthly consolidated amount.

Why haven't I received my monthly statement?

You will receive your statement based on the preference you select in your patient portal. Options include email, SMS or paper.

Why can't the same payment arrangement be applied to my entire account balance?

There may be additional charges pending with your insurance on the account(s). You are able to make a payment at this time. No payment plan can be set up until the entire balance has finalized with insurance.

Why am I getting a statement showing a balance, but I cannot set up a payment plan?

At this time, you are responsible for the entire balance not covered by insurance. You can settle the full amount or make a partial payment. A payment plan cannot be initiated until the insurance balance is taken care of.

MyChart Billing FAQ

How do I set up a payment plan in MyChart?

We offer two types of zero-interest payment plan options:

  • Extended payment plans ranging from 24-60 months, with our partner Commerce Bank
  • In-house payment plans for up to 18 months, which you can set up online in Avera MyChart.

To set up a payment plan in MyChart:

  1. Log into Avera MyChart.
  2. Select the Billing tile on your home screen, or in the menu, search for or navigate to Billing.
  3. On the Billing Summary page, review your billing statements. On each statement, you can select an option to Set up payment plan.
  4. Enter the dollar amount and number of months you would like to pay. Then, choose the option to Select payment method.
  5. Enter your payment information and complete the on-screen steps to submit your payment.

Will my payment plan amount change?

Your payments are based on your current charges, and you may have additional options for payments in MyChart bill pay. If you need help with your payment plan, please call the number on your billing statement.

How do I apply for financial assistance in MyChart?

You can apply online in Avera MyChart for financial assistance with your medical bills or you can request financial aid through paper forms you submit to the business office of your clinic or hospital.

To make an online request for financial assistance:

  1. Log into Avera MyChart.
  2. You can get to the Financial Assistance section in one of these two ways:
  • In the menu, search for or navigate to Financial Assistance.
  • Select the Billing tile on your home screen. On the Billing Summary page, under a billing statement, select Manage financial assistance.
  1. On the Financial Assistance page, you will see any past request history, if relevant. Select the option to + Request financial assistance.
  2. Follow the on-screen steps to add your Personal Info, Income, Expenses, Assets and Documents.
  • Attach documents along the way in the steps.
  • If you don’t have all your documents ready, you can save your progress and upload them later. Just select Finish Later if you’d like to come back.
  1. Sign and submit the request.

As your application is processed, you’ll get status updates through your MyChart account.
