About Me

Dr. Jeffrey Beck is a research scientist at Avera Genetics, where he leads research initiatives focused on understanding the genetic underpinnings of complex traits and implementing genomic insights into clinical care. His work spans from fundamental genetic research to developing practical bioinformatic solutions that enhance patient care through precision medicine approaches.

Scientific Research Expertise

Dr. Beck's research specializes in investigating the genetics of complex traits, including birthweight, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease and dizygotic twinning, as well as various aspects of population genetics. He develops and implements advanced bioinformatic and statistical methods to process diverse genetic data from microarray and next-generation sequencing platforms.

He serves as a core member of an international collaborative working group dedicated to advancing polygenic risk scoring methodologies and their clinical implementation. Additionally, he coordinates the development of a clinically focused genomics repository that links genetic data from consented individuals with electronic health records.

Dr. Beck also holds appointments as assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and adjunct professor in the Division of Biomedical and Translational Sciences at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, where he teaches research methodology to psychiatry residents and he guest lectures for other relevant courses.
