Dr. Tobias Meissner is a scientist and leader specializing in cancer genomics, bioinformatics, biomedical data science, and precision oncology. He leads innovative research integrating multi-omics data, real-world evidence, and AI-powered analytics, including machine learning and generative AI, to advance precision oncology and improve cancer care.

Dr. Meissner holds faculty positions as an adjunct associate professor of statistics at South Dakota State University and clinical assistant professor at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, where he mentors students and residents in data science and oncology research.

Scientific Research Expertise

At the Avera Cancer Institute, Dr. Meissner directs a multidisciplinary team at the intersection of cancer genomics, biomedical data science and real-world-evidence research. His research bridges discovery and clinical application, harmonizing clinical, genomic and outcomes data to advance precision medicine, generate real-world evidence, and directly improve patient outcomes.

His team also facilitates the Molecular Tumor Board, providing expert genomic interpretation and data-driven insights to support individualized cancer treatment decisions.
