Cancer Survivorship

Your survivorship journey begins the moment you hear the diagnosis – "You have cancer" – and continues through treatment and the remainder of your life. Choose Avera for treatment, comfort, support and care during each step of your survivorship journey.

Survivorship Resources

When you become part of the Avera Cancer Institute family, you can connect with others who deal with the same day-to-day concerns as you. Participate in one of our cancer support groups to share your story and benefit from a wide range of support services.

Visit the American Cancer Society for additional survivorship resources.

Avera Cancer Survivorship Clinic

The Avera Cancer Institute provides whole-person care — mind, body and spirit — during your cancer diagnosis and treatment. After completing active treatment, we assist you in your transition to follow-up care and provide holistic, long-term survivorship care.

The Avera Cancer Survivorship Clinic focuses on the following five areas:

  • Surveillance for reoccurrence
  • Screening for secondary cancers
  • Assessment and management of physical and psychological long-term and late effects of cancer treatment
  • Health promotion
  • Care coordination

Your multidisciplinary survivorship support team includes a dietitian, health coaches, financial advocates, social workers, oncology outpatient therapist, chaplain and 24/7 navigation center access. Each survivor is unique, and we want to ensure we meet all your needs as you transition out of active cancer treatment.

The Avera Survivorship Clinic connects you to needed screening services, primary care and specialists, therapists, fitness programs, support groups, integrative medicine and more. Call 888-422-1410 to learn more today.

Sexual Medicine Program For Women

Cancer survivors – especially survivors of breast and gynecologic cancers – may experience changes in sexual function such as vaginal dryness, decreased desire and arousal or discomfort and pain during intercourse.

If you or a loved one struggles with one or more of these symptoms after cancer treatment, count on Avera’s Sexual Medicine Program – the first and only program of its kind in the region – to provide the help you need. This holistic and multi-disciplinary approach brings together experts from urogynecology, cancer care, counseling, physical therapy and more to restore this aspect of your life.
