Your heart is doing a vital job — keeping you alive. Lower your risk of heart attack and stroke by being proactive about your cardiovascular health. Early awareness of heart and vascular disease risk factors can help you live a healthier life by empowering you to act and make changes now. A screening gives you and your doctor a close look at your cardiovascular health.

Planet Heart

This screening is recommended for men ages 40+ and women ages 45+, or those with a strong family history of heart disease. While these screenings are typically not covered by insurance, some Avera Health Plans members are covered or you can use your flex spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) to cover the affordable cost. Most people get both screenings done with one appointment through Planet Heart. Our screenings give you a chance to receive:

  • Heart screenings for $75
  • Vascular screenings for $75
  • Or get both for $125 and save!

What to Expect During & After

In addition to ultrasounds and a CT scan, you’ll get a risk assessment for cardiovascular disease and education, nutrition counseling and if needed, an introduction to tobacco cessation.

After the screening, our team will review the results to understand the full picture of your heart and vascular health.

About Risk Factors

Knowing your individual risk is key to protecting your heart. It could even save your life. Cardiovascular experts help assess possible heart and vascular disease early and treat it effectively before a serious health event occurs. They may recommend more than general guidelines for your individual screening schedule and disease monitoring needs.

Coronary Artery Disease

The most common heart disease, coronary artery disease (CAD), occurs when plaques build up and narrow your arteries, called atherosclerosis. Plaques are made of fat, cholesterol and calcium. Plaque and other risk factors can be addressed through a heart screening.
