Pharmacy Services

Pharmacists help you and your doctor improve your health condition through the safe and effective use of appropriate medications in a process known as pharmacotherapy or medical therapy.

Comprehensive Pharmacy & Prescription Services

Take advantage of Avera’s comprehensive pharmacy services, no matter where you live in the Upper Midwest. In addition to in-person pick-up at our full-service retail pharmacies, we can easily arrange for deliveries by postal mail or other carriers, so your medication supply remains safe and effective.

Explore a variety of pharmacy services available at Avera, including:

  • Specialty pharmacy – Delivers a wide range of specialty medications to support care of chronic, rare or complex conditions such as Crohn’s disease, hepatitis C, numerous types of cancers, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis, cystic fibrosis and more.
  • Retail pharmacy – Fills physician prescriptions for routine medications and offers over-the-counter drugs commonly recommended by your provider.
  • Infusion therapy – Supports in-home and hospital-based delivery of intravenous (IV) medications and treatments such as powerful antibiotics and specialty infusions.
  • Compounding pharmacy – Prepares compounded prescriptions that cannot be filled at your typical drugstore.

Medication to Enhance Your Care

Choose pharmacy services at Avera and rest assured you’re getting the right medication to improve your condition. Pharmacists on your care team support your treatment and serve as the primary source of information related to pharmaceutical drugs by:

  • Checking for allergies to medications
  • Determining the safest dose for your age and medical condition
  • Researching possible drug incompatibilities when treating multiple illnesses at the same time
  • Monitoring laboratory results
  • Consulting with you and your doctor on specific medications
  • Keeping up-to-date on the latest drugs and therapies

Help ensure medication safety by bringing a list of all prescription and non-prescription drugs—or the actual medications—you or your loved ones take to your medical appointments.

Dispose of Your Unused Medication

Keep your family and the water supply safe from potentially dangerous drugs. Safely throw away your unused or expired medications, including over-the-counter, controlled or un-controlled drugs at most Avera Pharmacy locations.

Inside the pharmacy, you’ll find a blue MedSafe receptacle where you can conveniently, anonymously dispose of your medicine during regular pharmacy hours. This drop-off receptacle works like a letter box, and is emptied by pharmacy staff.

Place liquid medications of 4 ounces or more in a sealed plastic bag. You may remove Rx labels or black out personal information for privacy. For our staff’s safety, Avera will not accept:

  • Trash
  • Regulated medical waste
  • Sharps
  • Syringes
  • Thermometers
  • Hazardous waste
  • Aerosols such as inhalers
  • Illicit drugs
  • Commercial waste

If you have questions about MedSafe or drug disposal, please call your nearest Avera Pharmacy location.
