Get Help Right Away

If someone is poisoned and not breathing or has collapsed, or you suspect poisoning, call 911 or go to one of Avera's emergency departments immediately.

About Poisons

Poisons exist in liquid, gas or solid form and can cause sickness or even death if too much is ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Poison is all around us: in the medicine cabinet, refrigerator, cupboards or your own backyard. Medicines, plants and cleansing products are just a few examples of potentially poisonous substances.

Designated Poison Control Centers

It's important to be aware of these dangerous substances along with prevention and treatment methods. The American Association of Poison Control has designated two poison control centers in the area that can provide additional information.
