Here's a Look at October's Festivities!
Compassion, Care and CUDDLES
Members of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity from the University of South Dakota delivered a load of teddy bears to the Avera Children’s Hospital, as part of their 22nd Annual Teddy Bear Run. Fraternity members actually ran
the bears in shifts 60 miles up Interstate 29. This year’s Teddy Bear Run raised over $7,700 to help Avera carry out the vision of caring for the body, mind and spirit of a child with every penny staying local to help children and families get the treatment and support needed.
Thank YOU to everyone who contributed to the barrage of bears; because of you, the children at Avera Children’s Hospital had a fun distraction during their day.
The Annual Briar Blessings Volleyball Tournament was a huge success raising nearly $15,000 to benefit local families suffering the loss of an infant. Thank you to those who participated, donated and sponsored this event. The Briar Blessings Golf Tournament was held in memory of Briar Bartel, who passed away prior to birth in February 2015. Proceeds benefit bereavement services for
families suffering the loss of an infant at Avera.

Gifts to Avera McKennan’s Holiday of Caring Fills both Trees and Hearts!
Thank you to all the departments, individual employees businesses and loyal friends of Avera McKennan who made this year’s Holiday of Caring a magical success for many families in need. Because of friends like you, the foundation had 42 families and 182 individuals sponsored by departments and individuals.
In addition, holiday meals were supplied and countless gifts were left under Giving Trees to support the needs of the Walsh Family Village, Avera Cancer Institute Sioux Falls, Avera Children’s Hospital and Avera Behavioral Health Center.
The foundation is once again excited to have partnered with the University of Sioux Falls with a Giving Tree. This year, the Walsh Family Village was selected to receive various items to help fulfill the needs of patients and families who stay at the village.
Special thank you to the University of Sioux Falls and to all who purchased items for the Giving Trees, sponsored families and to local businesses, such as HoneyBaked Ham, for off-setting the costs for the holiday meals. To demonstrate your generosity in action, here’s a few words from a sponsored family. “I wish to let you all know just how blessed we feel. Your generosity is amazing. For years we donated to others, but things have changed. Now we are on the receiving side and are so grateful.”
